In 1876 David Bishell travelled to New Zealand for a better life. Four years later he bought land in Marlborough, named it Caythorpe after his home village in England, and began farming.
Five generations on, Caythorpe is still proudly owned and farmed by the Bishell family.
Situated in the heart of Marlborough on the Wairau Plains, Caythorpe Family Estate was established 138 years ago as an arable cropping and livestock property. After generations of nurturing and management by the Bishell family, Caythorpe now also boasts world class vineyards and two hectares of premium cherry orchard. The Caythorpe Story
Our first vineyards were planted in 1987 on some of the most fertile soils in Marlborough. Our wines are a representation of everything that makes Caythorpe unique. Estate grown and attention to detail from vineyard to the bottle ensures you will enjoy the very best of Marlborough from every glass.
Cherries have also been an integral part of our farm for more than 30 years. High winter chill hours, warm spring days and minimal December rainfall provides an ideal environment for growing this favourite delicacy. Big and bursting with flavour, Caythorpe cherries are a taste sensation ready to be enjoyed.
