The fruit was grown exclusively on “Caythorpe” situated in the heart of the Central Wairau Plains. The 2018 growing season was characterised by an early bud burst and remarkably warm summer. Two and three cane vertical shoot positioned vines were carefully managed to ensure moderate yields that delivered intensity of flavours. Fruit was assessed daily during the ripening period to identify optimum sugar/acid balance and desired flavour characteristics for harvest.
A single parcel was harvested on April 4th; immediately pressed to limit skin contact and fermented with specific yeasts in 100% cool stainless steel by winemaker Jeremy McKenzie. After a period of sitting on lees the finished wine was bottled in August 2018.
